We arrived on time and ready to learn alot of new updated information about our beloved pets and to reaquaint ourselves with old friends and make new ones !! There were a good variety of topics and the speakers were all great !! The range of topics went from traveling all the way to Europe with your pig , to nutrition questions, vet care,to rabies information regarding pots and of course the ever present zoning issues that many people face with their pigs. Every speaker brought his or her own style and personality to the topic and once again we all learned some valuable new info for and about our pigs.
This year we decided to spend the night in Ft. Myers, so it was much less rushed and stressful, with no need to drive back home on Sat. night. That enabled us to socialize much more with everyone and relax. There was also lots of fun things for sale and and a great raffle that helped to do great work for needy pigs through the efforts of PAPA our host. The evening ended with a great dinner and more fun time to get to know everyone alot better and talk and talk about our piggies!! Not to mention the hotly contested dollar raffle for the beautiful piggy curio cabinet with etched glass of a potbellied pig on it, that was absolutely adorable !!!
The final event of the evening was the awards ceremony. Many wonderful, caring , giving friends of potbellied pigs were given the recognition they so deserve. For the time and effort they put in everyday to our beloved pigs and their care and welfare.I must brag a little bit and report that NAPPA was given a beautiful award and plaque for the service given to the potbellied pig community. Also our local clubs own Lynne Boisimer was given the Shelter of the Year Award for her never ending love and care for the many unwanted and abused and abandoned pots all over the state of Fl.!! And last but by no means least, our own Barbara Baker was given the "Hero of the Year " Award, for her many contributions to the pig community , From all her fights with zoning laws to help keep pigs in their homes,to busting backyard breeders, to the changing of the rabies classification for pigs in the State of Fl. to help make sure that no more pigs would be put to death needlessly. What a fantastic award for Barbara and something of which she should be very proud of, and one which I am so proud to say she is my dear friend .
Sunday morning came much too early for some of us, but with Barbara at the wheel we were off to eat breakfast and make our way back home. It was another great conference with valuable information given and fun times with friends both new and old!! Looking forward to the weekend for such a long time and then before you know it it is over again for another year!! I want to to thank PAPA for all their hard work in putting on another great weekend for pig people everywhere !! I look forward to another great time next year and I encourage everyone to try and make it a priority on their calendar for the 3rd Annual Pig Conference, you will not be sorry !!!
